About Me

Doug Osborne Clinical Hypnotherapist with a South London Practice, Putney.

I grew up in the Hertfordshire countryside with a fascination for the outdoors, wildlife and nature. The study of natural sciences during early school years led to an enthusiastic period in my twenties working for a leading pharmaceutical company. The cutting edge of clinical research as a chemist posed more and more questions.

My thirties were about exploring music and trance states - I spent a good amount of time exploring the world and formulating more questions. I had an opportunity to dip into some of my loves - plants, medicine and the knowledge of our indigenous ancestors. I spent five years studying a variety of disciplines from western herbal medicine to horticulture and eventually hypnotherapy.

For me hypnotherapy seemed to thread its way through so many practices that have been considered 'healing' arts for so many centuries. I even begun to notice during the various sports I was involved in an acute look of concentration.

What exactly happened at this moment?

My studies of clinical hypnosis yielded some answers.

Eyes open or closed that look of concentration - or focused attention - was a whole body state. It seemed to mark the beginning of something. In a complex and dynamic series of events we seem to enter a state that allows accelerated learning, organisation of our experience and a deep level of focus. Nothing weird, nothing magical, but a complex natural state you can observe in all types of people doing all types of things from reading to writing to painting - creative or analytical. Some athlete's call it the 'zone'.

I have used hypnosis for positive and accelerated change throughout my journey. I believe that when the fit between the therapist and patient is authentic the possibility for growth and change is enormous.

Clinical hypnotherapy has gained greater recognition within the medical community recently. Many medical professionals now train at the college I studied at. The general opinion is that as our theoretical understanding of hypnosis grows many of the doctors, nurses and consultants see more and more applications for clinical hypnosis. It is part of our psychological process. It seems that we cannot separate the mind and the body and hypnosis straddles this boundary.

My aim is to see you regain your sense of wellbeing, quickly, safely and in a sustainable, independent manner. I am a fully qualified and insured clinical hypnotherapist (PD Hyp) -a member of the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis, a member of Stress Management Society and I am bound by both their code of ethics.

I am currently studying at Roehampton University London (2010) for an MA in Integrative Psychotherapy & Counselling and I am an Associate Partner at Impact Factory – one of the UK’s most respected training, coaching and facilitation consultancies.
