We all experience ups and downs in our moods – that’s part of being human.

Depression gets a slightly odd PR. Most of us know people who have been severely debilitated by depression, yet we will still use the word ‘depressed’ as a casual description for feeling a bit fed up.

Sometimes our mood stays low for a long time, we can start to feel stuck and serious depression can soon follow.

Depression is really unpleasant. It can lead to poor sleep, loss or gain of weight, fatigue - sometime chronic - loss of sex drive, failure to menstruate, constipation, concentration difficulties, mood swings or prolonged emotional extremes. Some forms of depression are very serious.

Some of the medication available now can be really good at getting the body to chemically shift to a lighter place.

I often see clients after the first few weeks of medication – when they are looking for answers and a way out. I sometimes say that depression can mark the end of a phase - it can be part of the natural change process. It is important to feel you have some forward momentum and that you will not wind up back in a black hole again three weeks down the line.

How Hypnotherapy helps
