In a survey in the 90’s some people said the anticipatory nerves we worse than anything they could think of…..

At a primordial level the oldest part of our brain – the reptilian brain – still has control of our basic nervous function and in public speak situations see’s our peers, colleagues even family in that moment as a potential threat.

This sends the fight/flight response into arousal causing many of the familiar unpleasant reactions to a speech.

You have that moment coming up, it may be a best man’s speech, an address to a group of people at work, a thank you to the team or even a christening speech….in any case the thought of this begins to nag at you days before, perhaps not until the night before, by the time you are approaching the time to ‘get up and do it’ your legs feel like jelly, your mouth is dry and your carefully planned execution becomes a distant memory...


How Hypnotherapy Helps

Over a period of time you may have created triggers that ‘step-up’ the fight flight response in relation to public speaking, these can become habitual.

One of the things that we will begin to work on is ‘desensitising’ these old memories, we also begin to rehearse positive memory, so that this becomes the new point of reference for the unconscious – and remembering that the automatic nervous system is controlled by the unconscious mind, not the conscious.
