What can City Clinical Hypnotherapy treat

Skin Problems – Acne, Psoriasis and Eczema

You probably experience some degree of self consciousness. You may dress in a way that helps you to cover up your skin condition (if you can). Sometimes, you may even cancel certain events that either coincide with a flare up or require you to show parts of your body that are affected. Certain clothes, sports events and even locker rooms can be very threatening.

It’s a nightmare when you get a flare up on a big social event – a wedding, a big day out or a holiday. A date with the new guy or girl makes you very conscious.

Skin problems can be unpleasant if they have been going on for a short while and if it has been longer you may feel really limited.

Really protracted periods dealing with skin problems can really start to erode your self esteem and cause stress.

The paradox here is that often stress and anxiety can fuel a skin problem flare up. This in turn leads to more anxiety and stress and so a nasty downward spiral can begin. I have seen people with agoraphobia – really paralysed with a fear about entering outside - originally set in place by their skin condition.

The skin is the largest organ in the body. The skin often indicates the health of the individual. Long periods of biological stress; poor or inappropriate eating, smoking, drinking, certain medications and recreational substances can all show quite quickly on your skin if it is sensitive. Emotional troughs also produce a toxic effect in the body and reduce immune function; this too can have a detrimental effect. You may notice that around menstrual cycles your skin has a mind of its own.

Acne

Skin Problems Eczema, Psoriasis and Acne Acne often emerges in adolescence and can continue into adulthood. It is caused by an over production of protective oil from the skin, leading to eruptions and soreness.

In more severe cases it can effect social interaction and self esteem. Acne Rosacea can look similar to Acne Vulgaris - but usually appears in adults. It can be accompanied by flushing or blood vessel enlargement.

Psoriasis

Skin Problems Eczema, Psoriasis and Acne Psoriasis affects up to 3% of the population. It manifests as red, scaly and sometime bleeding patches of skin. This usually occurs in some kind of cycle. Sufferers may have sleep difficulties or have particular clothing that is uncomfortable.

The psoriasis may restrict certain activities that you enjoy and in more extreme cases may cause self consciousness. Sometimes the treatments for psoriasis are quite serious - employing steroids that may have adverse effects.

Eczema

Eczema_clip_image001.jpg Eczema is a very common condition that may manifest in a number of ways. It can range from the dry/wet cycle type to contact with a particular irritant type, to infant eczema. Eczema may just be a nuisance or become chronic and debilitating over prolonged periods. Often it can affect sleep, self consciousness (gym and school changing rooms) and begin to have an impact on self-esteem
